Privacy Policy

The short version
Texas Contractor Check is a free, public records aggregator. We do not require an account, we do not sell personal data, and we do not use tracking cookies. The only data we collect is the search text you type and standard server logs (IP address, user agent, request timestamp) retained for operational purposes and short-window abuse prevention.
What we collect
- Search queries. The contractor or business name you type. We may retain a sample of queries in aggregate form to improve matching. Queries are not tied to an identity.
- Standard server logs. IP address, user agent, request path, and timestamp. Used for rate limiting, error diagnosis, and abuse prevention. Retained for up to 30 days.
- Aggregate analytics. We use a privacy-respecting analytics tool (Plausible) that does not set cookies, does not track users across sites, and does not collect personal identifiers. It counts page views and button clicks in aggregate.
What we do not collect
- Names, email addresses, or phone numbers.
- Account credentials — there are no accounts on this site.
- Payment information — the site is free.
- Location data beyond the coarse IP geolocation inherent to web traffic.
- Cross-site tracking cookies or third-party ad pixels.
Third-party services
To produce a contractor report we query public records and commercial data providers on your behalf, including the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, city open data portals, Better Business Bureau, OSHA, federal court records (CourtListener / PACER), Google Places, Yelp, and industry trade association directories. Your search query is transmitted to these providers as part of fulfilling the request. We do not share your IP address or any identifier with them beyond what is inherent to a normal HTTP request originating from our server.
The site is hosted on Vercel. Rate limiting uses Upstash. Analytics uses Plausible. These providers may process request metadata (IP, user agent) incidental to serving the request.
Your rights
Because we do not maintain user accounts and do not associate search queries with identities, there is typically no personal record to access, correct, or delete. If you believe otherwise or have a specific concern, contact us through the contact page.
Texas residents have rights under applicable state privacy laws to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we may hold about them. California, Virginia, Colorado, and similar-jurisdiction residents have analogous rights under their state laws. Requests can be sent via the contact page and will be handled in accordance with applicable law.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
